They are looking forward to meeting and working with their mentors next Tuesday!

Students shared the first class precept from our read aloud book Wonder.  They all had such amazing thoughts about themselves and others!  Every student responded to the group using a sticky note which contained one comment about what they liked about the person's response.  I am looking forward to reading responses to our next precept!

Working with Genres

We have been discussing genres and making book recommendations.  Students worked in groups in the InTECC lab sorting book jackets to determine which genre they fit into, which turned into needing to create a list of books they would like to read!  We had great discussions about books we have read, books we would like to read, and genres and/or authors we preferred!

This week we worked on teamwork skills and how to collaborate and have effective team meetings.  We also discussed how to disagree agreeably, which is a skill everyone should master!  We spent more time in the InTECC lab working during reading and science and practiced our teamwork, technology, and communication skills.  We learned how to use edmodo.com to write reading responses and students even made book recommendations to their classmates online!

Today was our first day working in the InTECC lab!  We worked on our reading workshop lesson in small groups and familiarized ourselves with our lab setting.  Everyone was excited to be there and get right to work!  I am so proud of every students' enthusiasm for learning!  We are looking forward to out first project in our lab.

It was fun getting to see all of you today!  I am glad you are all as excited as I am to get started!  Remember, our first project will cover Civil War so start reading up to prepare.  If you are a parent who signed up to be a mentor, please check your e-mail with additional information.  Enjoy your last day of summer and I will see your smiling faces bright and early Wednesday morning!  Don't forget to be prepared to say, "Good Morning!"

I am excited to announce I received a grant from the Lanier Cluster Education Foundation this morning!  The grant will be used to support our newly created 5th grade InTECC lab!  Looking forward to students seeing the new space they will be using for project time!
