Students enjoyed creating their multiplication models on the computer! We even had one group project their work on the board to model thinking strategies to the class...it's exciting to see tech reach all aspects of our day and learning!

TEDEd Club Connect Week: Video Conference
This afternoon our class was able to video conference with two other TEDEd Clubs; one located in South Carolina and one in Canada. Students were able to ask one another about their TEDEd Talk ideas and brainstorm together. It was a great first meeting with other clubs and we are looking forward to meeting with others in different countries next time! I am so proud of how our students presented themselves and were prepared to speak and share their excellent ideas with others!

Genetics: Finalizing Our Driving Questions
We spent three days sharing our interests from our wonders and looked at how we could merge ideas into a deep, driving question with a call to action. Students did a great job pulling up their notes from our last project on what makes a quality driving question and what it should include.
Here are our revised driving questions for genetics (which may continue to change as DQs should be flexible):
How can we as kid scientists find out more information about kidney disease and transplants in people and use that information to tell Atlanta kidney transplant center about it to find a faster more efficient cure?
How can we help animals with a disabled bodies like X-linked muscular dystrophy and how can we make a comfy product that will exercise them properly and help them with their weak muscles and not agitate the animals but make a difference with them and help them with their disabilities so they can have a normal life and adjust to our product?
How can we find out if a baby has CP when it’s still in the womb and what tests are run to notify parents that their baby has CP and what treatments would the baby go through and can we work with a support group for the parents?
What is breast cancer and how can it be genetically passed down from person to person and how can we pull that information to interview a survivor from breast cancer and share that information with others?

How do cells form to make conjoined twins and who are some twins that have survived and learn to adapt to it? Also how can we contact doctors or people that have conjoined twins and get research from them and how can we use this research to help conjoined twins and how can we share this research with Seattle Therapy?

First Mentor Meeting with LMS Students!
This morning I met with a great group of former White Oak fifth grade students who were recommended to teach technology and presentation skills to our current fifth graders. They came in before their school start time and we discussed what they would be teaching (Sony Vegas, iMovie, Wix Web Design, 3D Modeling with Tinkercad, Movie Maker, Presentation Skills, Script Writing, and Parody Work) and looked at how to plan out their session. LMS students will be coming next Tuesday through Friday to teach their session to groups of fifth graders. They did an excellent job planning in their teams (some did not know their co leader) and preparing for next week.
I cannot wait to see them in action next week with students and am excited about our continued partnership with Lanier Middle!
