Final Fundraisers for Fill the Bowls

Friday night we set up shop at the entrance of the Lanier High School football scrimmage.  These two girls marketed and used their loud voices to solicit donations from everyone who entered!
Even after a long day of field day fun, they managed to raise money!
They even received donations from the principals at Lanier High and Lanier Middle School!

Saturday morning the girls signed up for a booth at Lanier High's first STEM MakerFest.  These girls represented White Oak well!  They spent four hours raising money and having fun checking out the other booths too!  Ask Tamia about her run in with a drone! :)

Being the fifth fundraiser, the booth set up has been perfected.  Their table was beautiful!

The lovely crew with their awesome shirts from Atlanta Mission!

Two large handmade bowls made and donated by a local artist were given to the person who made a large donation.  A special thanks to Laurel Rosenthal for being that special donor!
You helped the girls pass their fundraising goal!

They raised over $200 just this weekend!  Stay tuned for a final total from all five fundraisers...it will be announced Thursday!

Special Delivery from Atlanta Mission!

It was like Christmas morning this afternoon when the Fill the Bowls girls received a special delivery from Katie Patel from Atlanta Mission!  She sent them a sweet note of thanks along with tshirts to wear to their fundraisers this weekend and information about the organization.

Project Creation for Math PBL

Students are designing car models and pyramid designs in Tinkercad to print on the 3D printer.  Others are charting and graphing out budgets and savings plans and working on scripts for their commerical, song, and dance using the coordinate plane.  I wish we had a few more weeks of school to see their designs all the way through!

PBL Night Success 5/12/15

Half of our class came back to school last night for our school wide PBL showcase!
I am so proud of their hard work and commitment to their ideas.

The fingerprint group collected more fingerprints to honor Auschwitz victims.

Sharing their WWII POW interview of Hank Freedman in the PC Production room and it will be submitted to the Library of Congress!

Fundraiser #3 for Fill the Bowls was a success!  They raised over $200 last night, which puts them very close to their original $500 goal.  They will be at the football scrimmage Friday night as well as Lanier High's STEM MakerFair Saturday morning!
With each fundraiser, they become more skilled at marketing!

Reaching Out to Our Community

The Fill the Bowls group was able to see the home base for Atlanta Mission during our field trip to the Civil Rights Museum.

Group 24 met with Lanier High School robotics students for help with their wearable tech (bracelet) to show emotions.  They are ordering hardware to assemble and are designing the shell with Tinkercad to print on the 3D printer!

Hydrogen Generator: Trials Two and Three!

Group 19 met in the science lab today with Mr. Robert to make a second attempt to successfully create hydrogen with their generator.  They used wires to connect to the battery, and quite an event took place...wires were accidentally crossed and smoke was created!  After a quick evacuation and some fan action, the group was ready for a third trial!  They learned a lasting lesson about positive and negative connections and the reasons why wires cannot cross!

Trial Three:
They decided to relocate outside and use a jumper cable (as they originally thought would be more safe) to connect and it was a success!  Bubbles were created and hydrogen was flowing through the tube!  A leak was discovered, so before their next trial. they will need to seal the top with silicone.  What an exciting experiment day!

Electricity and Magnetism: Project Creation Week

We have had a busy week creating our projects!  Proposals were approved, materials were ordered, and theories were tested.  We have a group creating a generator, one designing roller coasters with magnets to make them more safe, and using IntuiLab touch screen, interactive software to design a compost pile for our school!

Excited their supplies from Home Depot arrived!
